Acupuncture has long been part of the landscape in natural medicine, but there are still many people who are uncertain about its benefits. The fact is there’s a lot of sound research to show that acupuncture can be a great asset for physiotherapists treating pain and inflammation.
While physiotherapy is more concerned with the physical science of using exercise and manipulation to help move patients to a pain-free state, there’s a great deal of evidence to show that acupuncture can help to manage the way we respond to pain.
Using specific points on the body, acupuncture stimulates the brain and spinal cord and this in turn promotes the production of the body’s naturally-occurring chemicals: endorphins, which relieve pain; melatonin, which aids sleep; and serotonin, which improves well-being.
Used as part of a physiotherapy ‘toolkit’ in patient care, acupuncture can be a really effective precursor to subsequent treatment. It promotes the healing process because the chemical responses it triggers naturally improve the body’s ability to self-repair. The result is an improved overall recovery time, allowing you to get back to enjoying life more quickly.
At West 1 Health, we’re great advocates of the strategic and appropriate use of acupuncture to aid our physiotherapy treatments and we’re always eager to help people have a better understanding of this ancient approach to healing.
If you’d like to know more about how acupuncture is integrated into our practice and how it might benefit you on your journey to a pain-free life, we’d love to hear from you. Our Harley Street clinic in Central London is ideally suited for the West End, including Regent Street, Oxford Circus, Great Portland Street and Euston.
This is the same price as our physiotherapy sessions. We don’t charge extra for this service, it combines and supplements physiotherapy treatment. We’re here to make sure you get the absolute best treatment and recover as quickly as possible.
This is very dependant on the condition you are seeing us for. Once our practitioner has fully assessed your complaint, provided you with a diagnosis and a treatment plan, we will be able to advise how many sessions you require.
Acupuncture is great in receiving muscle tension, inflammation, spasm and more.
We strategically and with anatomical knowledge, place acupuncture needle into the soft tissue. The acupuncture needles stimulate an already existing process which helps with inflammation and muscle relaxation. We can use acupuncture for a variety of injuries and conditions to get you better.
The treatment is relatively pain free. The needles we use are very thin and pierce the skin quickly to prevent pain. There may be some deep achey symptoms, which usually come from the muscle which are being stimulated.
